How do you make an object disappear?
Here’s what you need:
- A pyrex beaker
- A pyrex test tube
- Vegetable oil
- Gloves
Fill up the pyrex beaker with vegetable oil. Wear your gloves and put the test tube in the beaker. As the test tube is filled also with vegetable oil, it will disappear.. like magic!
How does it work? It is because the refractive index of the pyrex and the vegetable oil is the same. So the light will just pass through it.
If you do it with the pyrex beaker filled with water, you will still see the test tube because of the difference of their refractive index. The light will reflect when it passes through the test tube which makes it visible to our eyes.
