How to Make Ice Volcanoes

ice volcano 1

This experiment is going to teach you how to make ice volcanoes. It is a messy but a really fun experiment to do with your whether with a class or kids church.

It is advisable to just do this outside the classroom because, yes it will surely get the kids excited, but will also likely make a total mess while doing the experiment.  The first part in creating this experiment can be done by you alone or with the kids.

So what you need to have are the following:

  1. A small bowl
  2. A golf ball
  3. Water
  4. Baking soda
  5. Vinegar
  6. Food coloring
  7. Plastic

Place the ball at the bottom of the bowl and cover the whole bowl with the plastic. Make sure that the golf ball will create a hole in the middle.

Pour the water, baking soda and food coloring mixture into the bowl and put it in the freezer. Once it is totally frozen, remove the plastic from the bowl and separate it from the formed ice. It should look like this.

Pour in drops of vinegar and voila, you will have your ice volcanoes.
