I think stewardship is a powerful yet delicate concept to grasp. As a parent, when we say “our” kids, they really are God’s kids. We have been given them to love, nurture and train. Stewardship means loving and caring for something as if it were your own, while knowing and respecting that it isn’t. The best stewards are the ones who most love the true owners of whatever they are caring for. This definitely applies for all of us in kidmin too, if not even more so. They may feel like “our” students, “our” kids, “our” riders, but they are theirs and His, and not truly ours, yet in stewardship, we love, care and train them as if they were our own. Let’s begin by loving the one we are serving, and then continue with loving the ones He is entrusting to us. The stronger the foundation, the taller the building can be. How deep will we help root the children in our ministries in doctrine, apostolic worldview and a deep love for the church and working in His field?
“Children are not casual guests in our home. They have been loaned to us temporarily for the purpose of loving them and instilling a foundation of values on which their future lives will be built.” – James Dobson
